John Koller, director of Harware Marketing just revealed on the The Playstation blog that the PS2 is now under 100 dollars. But that bit of news is hardly all John has to say. The release, in classic Sony fashion, does not miss an opportunity to mention that the PS2 has sold 50 million units so far, and goes on to state how overjoyed he is that a whole new generation of people "some of whom weren't even alive when the system was first introduced" will be let into the PS2 fold. Clearly, Sony does it all for the kids. He closes out the paragraph by stating that while the industry average is a 5 year console life span, Sony has always guaranteed a 10 year life span. This all might sound familiarly arrogant, but at the end of the day, Koller is right. There are no new games coming out for the Gamecube or Xbox and there haven't been for at least 2 years. By contrast, Guitar Hero Metallica is coming out for the PS2 only a short time after the current gen release of the game and the console is still seeing a good amount of new releases. Sure, the graphics and general power of the console might not be up to current standards, but as the Wii has shown, that's not a big deal for large amount of people. If you don't already own a PS2, I highly recommend you take advantage of this deal. There are a huge supply of goods games out for the system and all of them will likely sell for under $10.
